Kaspersky Lab joins the National Cyber Security Alliance and hundreds of organizations in a global effort to respect privacy, safeguard data and enable trust

Woburn, MA – January 17, 2018 — /BackupReview.info/ — Kaspersky Lab North America has become a Champion of Data Privacy Day 2018, an international effort held annually on January 28 to raise awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust. As a Champion, Kaspersky Lab North America recognizes and supports the principle that all organizations share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information.

Data Privacy Day is part of a greater campaign that promotes awareness of the importance of privacy, highlights simple ways to protect personal information and reminds organizations that privacy is critical in business. Kaspersky Lab North America joins the growing global effort among nonprofits, academic institutions, corporations, government entities, municipalities and individuals to raise awareness at home, at work and school and in their communities.

“As a cybersecurity leader with a 20-year history, Kaspersky Lab shares the same primary goals as Data Privacy Day, which is to respect privacy, safeguard data and enable trust. For this reason, we are proud to support such an important initiative not just on January 28, but year-round,” said Todd Helmbrecht, senior vice president, marketing, Kaspersky Lab North America. “Through increased collaboration and heightened awareness, consumers and businesses alike will become more diligent when handling personal data, making it harder for cybercriminals to access such valuable information.”

Kaspersky Lab recommends adhering to the following best practices to safeguard personal data:

  • Conduct regular check-ups on the security settings of all social media accounts.
  • Use two-factor authentication to secure your primary email, which is connected to banking services and other important sites. If you want to login to ambiguous services, it is best to create a secondary email address.
  • Be careful when posting any photos online, especially when it comes to IDs, tickets and billing documents. Avoid sharing any information about travel schedules online.
  • Use a VPN when connecting to unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
  • Avoid using weak or repeated passwords. Test the strength of your passwords at https://password.kaspersky.com/.
  • Stop sharing personal data with online merchants (which is used for ad targeting) by accessing key features in cybersecurity solutions, such as the Private Browsing feature found in Kaspersky Total Security and Kaspersky Internet Security.

In North America, Data Privacy Day is led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a non-profit, public-private partnership dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure and more trusted internet. About Data Privacy Day
Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. Data Protection Day commemorates the Jan. 28, 1981, signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. NCSA, the nation’s leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness, leads the effort in North America. The Data Privacy Day initiative is made possible by generous support from our sponsors and is advised by a distinguished advisory committee of privacy professionals.
