Organizations Can Now Use Microsoft Hyper-V With Tintri VMstore Storage Systems for VM-Level Data Management, Protection and Visibility for Mixed Hypervisor Environments

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – December 11, 2014 — /BackupReview.info/ — Tintri Inc., the leading producer of smart storage for virtualization and cloud environments, today announced support for Microsoft Hyper-V will be generally available on Dec. 18, 2014 for all Tintri VMstore storage appliances running Tintri OS 3.1 or greater. Tintri now supports all three major hypervisor environments—VMware vSphere, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Microsoft Hyper-V.

Tintri VMstore storage is designed specifically for virtualized environments and private cloud deployments. Customers have deployed hundreds of thousands of VMs running Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, SAP and many other business critical applications, databases and virtual desktop infrastructure environments. Many of these organizations have already incorporated multi-hypervisor usage into their environment. Market research firm IDC’s recent survey1 of 202 companies worldwide with 1,000 or more employees reports that 59 percent of respondents were using more than one hypervisor.

Tintri VMstore systems natively support Microsoft’s Server Message Block (SMB) 3.0 protocol and integrate with Microsoft Hyper-V Manager and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).

Tintri VMstore for Microsoft Hyper-V environments offers the following benefits:

  • Purpose built, high performance SMB 3.0 protocol stack to run Hyper-V workloads for compatibility with wide-ranging virtualization and private cloud deployments.
  • Native integration with Hyper-V Manager and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) for VM-level data management operations, such as snapshots, clones and replication.
  • Deploy high density Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp VDI running on Hyper-V with up to 3,500 VMs on a single VMstore T880.
  • Consolidate and deploy business critical applications such as Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint that require consistent sub-millisecond latency and cost-effective storage platforms.

“Organizations rely on multi-hypervisor environments to expand their virtualization footprint and support diverse use cases,” said Ken Klein, Chairman and CEO of Tintri. “Tintri simplifies storage for millions of Microsoft users. Today’s announcement of support for Microsoft Hyper-V means an organization can run hundreds of mixed workloads – server, VDI, private cloud and development and test – including business critical Microsoft applications, such as SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint concurrently across multiple hypervisors on a single Tintri VMstore. Instead of fumbling with archaic concepts like LUNs, they can simply manage and protect individual VMs.”

“While many companies have taken advantage of the efficiency and savings that can be realized with server virtualization technology, broad-based adoption throughout the data center often stalls due to mismatches between traditional storage and VMs,” said Chris Van Wesep, Director of Server & Tools Marketing, Microsoft. “With unique VM-level monitoring and data management capabilities, Tintri for Hyper-V simplifies storage management significantly.”

Pricing and Availability
Tintri support for Microsoft Hyper-V with Windows Server 2012 R2 is generally available on Dec. 18, 2014 at no cost to Tintri VMstore customers with a valid Tintri support agreement.
