Plan B Announces New Independent, Connected Data Centre Network – Southern Cross Data Centres

AUCKLAND, NZ – 02 July 2014 — / — Plan B Limited (“Plan B”) has announced plans to launch a new independent, connected data centre network called Southern Cross Data Centres (or “SXDC”).

Plan B’s network will initially include five SXDC locations in Auckland (two locations), Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch plus connections to other major data centres. We will offer independent data centre colocation services with the ability to leverage our other locations and business continuity services to protect customer data.

As part of this change, we will open a brand new, custom-built data centre and business recovery facility in Tawa (Wellington) in August this year. which will increase our current footprint at the site by around 1,000m2. Plan B has committed $30 million to Stage 1 of Southern Cross Data Centres.

The SXDC announcement is a natural progression from our current provision of business continuity, colocation and recovery services for businesses in New Zealand and this announcement follows our April acquisition of cloud backup provider Disaster Recovery Group (DRG).

“Plan B will remain integrator and telco neutral allowing us to provide a quality environment to multiple clients within SXDC, but our core focus will remain Business Continuity and related services,” says Ian Forrester, Managing Director, Plan B Limited.

Additional developments and acquisitions are expected to follow.
